members
and
partners,
along
with
friends
left
Verwood
shortly
after
10.00am
for
a
pleasant
coach
drive
through
the
Sussex
countryside
to
arrive
at
the
National
Trust
house
at
Petworth
at
around 11.50
First
stop,
comfort
and
then
coffee
in
the
café.
There
was
time
for
a
brief
look
around
the
grounds
to
admire
the
mass
of
daffodils,
still
in
their
glory,
before
meeting
for
lunch
in
the
barrack room, that had been set aside for our private light soup and sandwich, lunch.
Individual
tours
of
the
house
followed.
The
present
house
was
built
in
the
17
th
century
and
the
grand
state
rooms
house
an
extensive
display
of
paintings
and
sculpture,
including
works
by
Turner, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Gainsborough.
There
was
then
time
for
a
walk
in
the
grounds
to
see
the
lake
and
take
another
look
at
the
gardens,
before
a
cup
of
tea
for
some
and
then
it
was
back
to
the
coach
at
4.00
for
the
journey
home.
A very pleasant day, the weather stayed fine and the coach journey was excellent.
